Alone
Taken at Sydney’s famous Bondi Icebergs, Alone captures a moment that is quintessentially Australian - swimming “in the pool”. The fact that this pool is world famous and positioned at the end of one of the most iconic beaches on the planet elevates “Alone”.
The image is so named to convey the freeing feeling we have when we are underwater and in another world. The space is ours alone, even if we are sharing it with others.
The image is unprocessed aside from some sharpening. The greens are as seen with the naked eye on the day of the shoot.
The image is outstanding for its use of perspective, geometry and symmetry. The built world combining with something natural - water - is typical in Adam’s photography. The swimmers play an important role in this image yet are part of the bigger picture.
With a boiling of bubbles clashing with a silky smooth water surface Alone conveys both motion and calm in a single image.
